The Universal American School Administration would like to remind you that the                Re-Enrollment for the next academic year 2011/2012 has been open for UAS students and their siblings since January 3, 2011 and the Deadline is tommorrow: January 31st, 2011.

Only UAS students and their brothers/sisters have the opportunity for enrollment during this time period.

Our primary interest is to retain our current students. So it is imperative for parents to re-enroll their children during the above mentioned period. We need to place students in their proper classes for the next academic school year based on their individual needs and interests.

After January 31, 2011, UAS students who did not re-enroll and Non UAS students will have equal opportunity to enroll. The school administration will not be held responsible for not being able to reserve your son’s/daughter’s space after this date.

Dear Parents:

Students will be dismissed from school this Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. as indicated on the school calendar.  Busses will leave school at 11:15 a.m. and parents who pick up their children, are asked to do so at this time as well.

School will resume on Sunday, January 30, 2011as we begin 3rd Quarter of 2010-2011 academic year.

Re-Enrollment Reminder:  Please make sure that you have re-enrolled your child or children for the 2011-2012 academic year with the Business Office.

نحيطكم علماً بأن يوم الخميس الموافق 27 يناير 2011 سيكون نصف يوم دراسي (كما هو مذكور في رزنامة المدرسة).  وسوف ينصرف الطلبة في هذا اليوم الساعة 11:00 صباحا.
                  
أما موعد انصراف باصات المدرسة فسيكون عند الساعة 11:15 صباحاً.  الرجاء اصطحاب أبنائكم من المدرسة في الأوقات المحددة أعلاه.

Only UAS students and their brothers/sisters have the opportunity for enrollment during this time period.

Our primary interest is to retain current students. So it is imperative for parents to re-enroll their children during the above mentioned period. We need to place students in their proper classes for the next academic school year based on their individual needs and interests.

Students who have been placed on academic or behavioral probation for the remainder of the first semester will not be eligible for re-enrollment until February 1, 2011 unless their probation continues, then their re-enrollment will not be allowed.

After January 31, 2011, UAS students who didn’t re-enroll and Non UAS students will have equal opportunity to enroll. The school administration will not be held responsible for not being able to reserve your son’s/daughter’s space after this date.

UAS Administration invites you to fill out the attached re-enrollment forms and return them to the Admission Office with the payment before  January 31, 2011 to be able to reserve a seat for your son / daughter for the next academic year.

Our primary interest is to retain current students. So it is imperative for parents to
re-enroll their children during the above mentioned period. We need to place students in their proper classes for the next academic school year based on their individual needs and interests.

During the above mentioned period, only UAS students and their siblings have the opportunity for enrollment. As of February 1, 2011, UAS students and Non UAS students will have equal opportunity to enroll. Therefore, the school administration will not be held responsible for not being able to keep your son/daughter seat later than this date.

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of a valuable UAS family member: Mr. Paul Huffman. Mr. Huffman's family has informed the UAS Team that he has passed away of natural causes while on vacation during this Winter Break- May God Rest His Soul. It has been a very sad and emotional time for his family and for the entire UAS Team. Mr. Huffman has been with the UAS Family for over two years and has been an asset to the Elementary 4th Grade Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Please note that Thursday, December 16, 2010 will be a half-day of school as indicated in the calendar.  All students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. Busses will depart at 11:15 a.m.  Please pick up your child promptly at 11:00 a.m.

In accordance with our school calendar, the school will be closed for Winter Break beginning Friday, December 17, 2010 thru Sunday, January 2, 2011. However, for your convenience the Business Office will be working during the winter break from: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday to Thursday. 

Classes will resume on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the regular scheduled time.

We will reach the end of our first grading period this Thursday, November 4, 2010.  Report cards will be distributed to parents and students on the following Thursday, November 11 at the end of the day.

Dear Parents:

We will be dismissing school this Thursday, September 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. as indicated in the school calendar, to enable our teachers to participate in a half-day professional development workshop.  Students will be dismissed from school at 11:00 a.m.  KG dismisses at 10:45 a.m.  Buses will leave school at 11:15 a.m. and parents who pick up their children are asked to do so at that time.

This Thursday (September 30) Mid Term Progress Reports will go home to parents.

School will resume on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the regularly scheduled time.

High School Parent/Teacher conference are scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in respective teachers’ classrooms.  High School students are encouraged to attend conferences with their parents.

Additional information about upcoming conferences for Middle School will be sent home later this week.

Reminders for KG/Elementary Dept

The Sign-up Sheet for Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 10, 2010 is posted in the Reception Area (Administration Entrance). Classroom teachers will assign a time for those who haven’t signed up for a time.   A confirmation slip will be sent home on October 5^th. 

Thursday, September 30, 2010 will be a dress down day for the KG/Elementary department- students may come to school in regular clothing.

One last note – 2,471 KD were donated for our Pakistani Relief Campaign. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s generosity.

·        يوجد على لائحة الإعلانات في مكتب الاستقبال سجل لتقوموا باختيار الموعد الذي يناسبكم للاجتماع بمدرسي أبنائكم يوم الأحد الموافق 10 أكتوبر 2010. أما بالنسبة لأولياء الأمور الذين لم يقوموا بتسجيل الموعد فسيقوم مدرس/مدرسة الفصل بوضع الموعد المناسب، وسنقوم يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 5 أكتوبر 2010  بإرسال كتاب يؤكد الموعد المحدد لكم.

·        يوم الخميس الموافق 30 سبتمبر 2010 بإمكان الطلبة الحضور الى المدرسة بما يحلو لهم من زي غير ملتزمين بالزي المدرسي.

Dear Parents:
Universal American School is in the process of issuing all students their 2010-2011 student I.D. card.  The Identification (ID) card is used to maintain a high level of security at our school, to allow students to check-out books in the library, and to attend school-sponsored activities and events.  Middle and High School students attending Universal American School are required to have their student ID card with them and visible at all times.  Teachers and administrators may ask to see a student I.D. card at any time to verify they are indeed a student at Universal American School.

Elementary Student ID cards will not be issued directly to students to keep in their possession, but instead, will be retained by their respective classroom teacher to avoid loss.  The ID card will be distributed to elementary students at the beginning of the day and collected from students at the end of each day.

ID cards will be issued to all students at no cost only once.  Any student ID card which is damaged or lost must be immediately replaced at a cost of five (5) KD.  Any student who withdraws or graduates from Universal American School is required to return their student ID card to the administration office.

Please help us maintain a high level of safety and security in our school by ensuring your Middle and High School child carries their student ID with them at all times while attending Universal American School. We ask that every parent/guardian please sign this letter acknowledging you have been informed of the school’s student ID card requirement.  Please return the signed portion at the bottom of this letter to your child’s appropriate school department secretary as soon as possible.   Thank you for your time and cooperation.

     إن المدرسة العالمية الأميركية بصدد إصدار بطاقة الطالب لجميع أبنائها للعام الدراسي 2010/2011  حيث أن إستخدام هذه البطاقة يمكننا من الحفاظ على أعلى مستوى من الأمان في مدرستنا وكذلك يقوم الطلبة باستعارة الكتب من المكتبة وإرجاعها وحضور أنشطة وفعاليات المدرسة، وعلى طلبة المرحلتين المتوسطة والثانوية المسجلين في المدرسة العالمية الأميركية إحضارها يوميا حيث أنه قد يطلب منهم إبرازها للمدرسين والاداريين في أي وقت للتحقق من هويتهم والتأكد من أنهم طلبة المدرسة بينما لن يتم تسليم هذه البطاقات لطلبة المرحلة الابتدائية ومرحلة رياض الأطفال ولكن سيتم إعطائها لمدرس الفصل لتجنب فقدانها.

سيتم إصدار هذه البطاقات لمرة واحدة  فقط وفي حالة تلفها أو فقدانها يتم إستبدالها بأخرى مقابل رسم قدره خمسة دنانير.  إذا قمت بنقل ابنك / ابنتك من المدرسة العالمية الأميركية  إلى مدرسة أخرى أو تخرج ابنك / ابنتك من المدرسة برجاء إعادة بطاقة الطالب لقسم التسجيل.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are now in the second week of the new school year with many great things happening.  The commitment and dedication of our students and staff to creating a wonderful and supporting teaching and learning community is clearly evident.  We have much to take pride in and no doubt will achieve great things together.

Several concerns have been raised that we must address if we are to provide your child a safe and orderly learning environment.  We genuinely hope you will understand the necessity for the following requests and will support their intent.

A couple of security and safety concerns that we must resolve for the sake of our students.    We would like to please inform those parents whose Drivers and Helpers, who drop-off and pick-up children, not to gather under the sidewalk shaded area.  This area is designated for our school students only.  Drivers and helpers must stay in their cars until the students have been dismissed. If these rules are followed then at the end of the day we can significantly reduce the amount of time needed to clear the traffic congestion.   Your continued efforts and patience in helping us keep the waiting time under 15 minutes is deeply appreciated. 

Further, we must make sure that parents/guardians and visitors to Universal American School are properly admitted into the school facility.   If parents/guardians/visitors wish to meet with a teacher, school administrator, or the school owner/director they must make an appointment to do so.  Please call 1822-827, Ext.100 to schedule an appointment.  If you leave a phone number where you can be reached, the receptionist will call you back to confirm your appointment.  Parents and visitors will be asked to surrender their civil identification card and will be provided with a Visitor’s Badge that must be worn at all times during their scheduled visit. 

With our limited parking and entrances and exits into and out of the front of the school. It is important that all parents and drivers adhere to the one-way traffic flow into and out of the school parking lot.  Please be patient and courteous and follow the basic rules for safe driving.  We ask that you please not abandon your car in traffic or park along the sides of roads at the point of entry and in student pick up zones, as this makes it very difficult to keep the traffic moving smoothly.  Together, we can make the traffic plan work, but only if everyone makes a genuine effort to do so.  We really appreciate your help in this area.  We also request that parents, drivers and others do not enter the school to meet their children but rather to stay outside the blue railing and wait for them to arrive at their designated sidewalk areas only.  Nursery and KG parents are welcome to drop off and pick up their children at their child’s classroom.

Students must not be dropped off at school prior to 7:00 a.m. each normal school day nor be allowed to remain on school grounds after 3:00 p.m.
During Ramadan, we ask that students not be dropped off at school prior to 8:30 a.m. as staff do not report to work until that time.

The last concern is with regards to tutoring.  Students receiving tutoring assistance from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. are to remain on or in school facilities at all times during the hour of tutoring.  Students in grades K-8 who are receiving tutoring between 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. must report to the designated study hall area by 3:00 p.m.  High School students can choose to also wait in the designated study hall area or may leave school grounds with their parents/guardians and/or designated driver and return to school when their tutoring time begins.  At no time may High School students who are being tutored in the second tutoring session roam the school building or school grounds after 3:00 p.m. – if they choose to stay at school, they must report to the designated study hall area at 3:00 p.m. Failure to do so will jeopardize student’s  favorable status with UAS.

Finally, a number of parents/guardians have approached me with excellent suggestions, recommendations, ideas, and what-ifs for improving a number of school areas that impact them and their children.  Although we have not yet been able to implement all their thoughts, it doesn’t mean we are still not working on them.  We do appreciate your time and input and sincerely hope you will continue to provide it.

We have today handed to your son/daughter the Student/Parent Handbook for academic year 2010-2011.
There are two documents (first two pages) in this handbook that must to be returned to the school no later than Wednesday, September 8, 2010.

1.  Letter that requires parent and student signature.
2. Emergency Information 2010-2011 should be filled in both English and Arabic.

Please make sure to read the handbook and return the above documents to us by September 8, 2010. Failure to return the Letter and Emergency form promptly will not allow your child to return to the school.

الصفحة الثانية: معلومات الطالب للعام الدراسي 2010-2011 وهي مطلوبة باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية

    كما نرجو الحرص على قراءة دليل الطالب/ ولي الأمر قراءة متأنية وإعادة الأوراق المذكورة أعلاه في الوقت المحدد وهو قبل 8/9/2010

    علماً بأن تخلف الطالب عن تسليم الأوراق المطلوبة في موعدها المحدد قد يتسبب في عدم السماح له بمواصلة الدوام المدرسي.

Dear Parents,

Please accept our best wishes for the holy month of Ramadan.

Another academic school year has arrived and UAS is proud to be celebrating its thirty-fourth anniversary of serving children in what is certainly the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding part of the world. The combination of an outstanding staff, a sincere love of children, and a pursuit of educational excellence, is what gives UAS its unique character.  To those of you whose children are returning, welcome back, and to those whose children are new to UAS, welcome to the family. 

The U.A.S. family appreciates your continuous cooperation and support.  You are our sincere evaluators.  We give your ideas and suggestions full consideration in our school improvement plans. We will continue our efforts to modify and improve our educational facilities, programs, student activities.

This year we are pleased to welcome Dr. Sherlock Hirning, our school Superintendent.  A special welcome to all our new faculty and returning staff as well. They are looking forward to creating the finest teaching and learning environments for your children.

    مع بداية العام الدراسي يسرنا أن نهنئكم بحلول شهر رمضان الكريم أعاده الله علينا وعليكم بالخير واليمن والبركات. وتزامنا مع هذه المناسبة تحتفل المدرسة العالمية الأمريكية بمرور أربع وثلاثين سنة على تأسيسها أمضتها في خدمة الطلبة في جوٍ يسوده التحفيز والتحدي بما يعود بالفائدة للجميع.

    إن ما يميز المدرسة العالمية الأمريكية ويعطيها طابعها الفريد هو إخلاص الطاقم التدريسي وتوفير جو من المحبة الصادقة للطلبة والسعي لرقيهم التعليمي، وعليه تود المدرسة الترحيب بالطلبة العائدين للدراسة وبالطلبة الجدد المنتسبين لمدرستنا.

Dear UAS Parents,

Please accept our best wishes for the holy month of Ramadan.

Kindly note the following Ramadan Schedule will be in effect until the last day of Ramadan:

Nursery/Kindergarten                                                 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Elementary School                                                     9:00 a.m. to   2:25 p.m.

Middle School/High School                                       9:00 a.m. to   2:30 p.m.

It is important that all students arrive at school no later than 8:50 a.m. when the first bell rings; classes will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Please be prompt and pick your child up from school by 2:30 p.m.

Please note that there will be no After-School Activities during Ramadan except for athletic team practices and tutoring from 2:45 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. 

If your son/daughter has tutoring or any athletic team practices you will receive a letter from his/her teacher indicating so.

During Ramadan students are not allowed to eat in school.  Those students who are not fasting and the Non-Muslims will be allowed to eat during recess in the designated area.

برجاء العلم بأن الأنشطة الإضافية بعد الدوام المدرسي ستتوقف خلال شهر رمضان، بإستثناء تدريبات الفرق الرياضية / وطلبة نموذج الأمم المتحدة وحصص التقوية والتي ستبدأ من الساعة 2:45 وحتي الساعة 4:00 عصراً، وفي هذه الحالة سيقوم مدرسو ومدربو أبنائكم بإبلاغكم بمواعيد حصص التقوية والتدريب.

كما نود إعلامكم بأن الأكل والشرب ممنوع تماماً في المدرسة خلال شهر رمضان، في حين سيتم تحديد مكان معين للأكل خلال وقت الاستراحة للطلبة غير المسلمين.

3.       الرجاء الاطلاع علي الموقع البريدي للمدرسة ) www.uas.edu.kw ) قسم أولياء الأمور لمتابعة أية مستجدات.

4.      الطلبة  المتغيبون عن حضور اليوم الدراسي الأول سيعتبر غيابهم بدون عذر .

نحيطكم علماً بأن يوم الاربعاء الموافق 9 يونيو 2010 سيكون آخر يوم دراسي للطلبة (كما هو مذكور في رزنامة المدرسة). وسوف ينصرف الطلبة في هذا اليوم الساعة 11:00 صباحا.

أما موعد انصراف باصات المدرسة فسيكون عند الساعة 11:15 صباحاً. الرجاء اصطحاب أبنائكم من المدرسة في الأوقات المحددة أعلاه.

Dear U.A.S. Parents,

We are coming to the close of a very productive year for the children and it would not have been possible without the support of our families.

Please note that the last day for all students will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:00 A.M.

Busses will leave school at 11:15 A.M. and parents who pick up their children are asked to do so at that time.

Have a safe and blessed holiday with your families. Your children have worked hard and will benefit from the rest.

Remember the first day of school next year is Tuesday, August 24.

Dear Parents:

Just a few reminders as we move closer to the end of this school year.

June 14, 2010 is the last day to collect student school records if they are leaving UAS to attend a new school. This date will also be the final date for issuing school transcripts, report cards and/or other general student information. There will not be an opportunity after this date to request and receive student documents. Parents will have to wait until August 24, 2010 when school officially begins after the summer break to receive student documents if they don’t request the student documents by June 14, 2010. Please remember that all financial concerns and obligations must be resolved with the school Business Office before any student records can be released to parents.

Report cards will be available for Elementary on June 8th and Middle School and High School students on June 14th.

Please check our school web site www.uas.edu.kw (Parents section) for updated school information and to view the 2010-2011 School Calendar.

NOTE: The school will be completely closed during the summer break from June 30th through July 31st . Parents will need to call 1822-827 if they need information or assistance. Again, parents are reminded that reenrollment is necessary to secure class placement for the 2010-2011 academic school year. First Day of School for all students is August 24, 2010.

Kindly note the following Ramadan Schedule will be in effect during the holy month of Ramadan:

Nursery/Kindergarten…………………………………. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon
Elementary School…………………………………….. 9:00 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.
Middle School/High School…………………………… 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

During Ramadan students are not allowed to eat in school. Those students who are not fasting will be allowed to eat during recess in a designated area.

السادة/ أولياء الأمور الكرام

تحية طيبة وبعد.

ها نحن وقد شارفنا على نهاية العام الدراسي، فإننا نود تذكيركم ببعض الأمور الهامة المتعلقة بالمدرسة. 

برجاء العلم بأن يوم الاثنين الموافق 14 يونيو 2010 هو آخر موعد لاستلام التقارير والشهادات أو أية مستندات خاصة بعملية النقل في حال كان لديكم الرغبة في نقل ابنكم/ابنتكم إلى مدرسة أخرى، وفي حال لم تقوموا باستلامها في هذا التاريخ، فعليكم الانتظار حتى موعد ابتداء العام الدراسي الجديد في 24 أغسطس 2010 للحصول عليها حيث أن المدرسة ستغلق أبوابها للعطلة الصيفية، وبرجاء الحرص على تسديد جميع الحسابات المالية مع الإدارة المالية في المدرسة لتتمكنوا من استلام الشهادات.

علماً بأن توزيع شهادات مرحلتي الابتدائي والمتوسط سيتم في يوم 8 يونيو 2010، أما شهادات المرحلة الثانوية فسوف يتم توزيعها يوم 14 يونيو 2010

الرجاء الإطلاع على موقع المدرسة في الإنترنت (www.uas.edu.kw  - صفحة أولياء الأمور) لمتابعة أية مستجدات وللتحقق من رزنامة المدرسة للعام الأكاديمي 2010/2011

ملاحظة: الرجاء العلم بأن المدرسة ستغلق أبوابها خلال العطلة الصيفية من 30 يونيو إلى 31 يوليو 2010. وفي حال رغبتكم في الإستفسار، الرجاء الاتصال على الرقم 1822827. ونود أن نؤكد مرة أخرى أن أول يوم دراسي للعام القادم سيكون يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 24 أغسطس 2010

كما نود أن نجدد حرصنا على دعوة أولياء أمور الطلبة الذين لم يقوموا بعمل إجراءات إعادة التسجيل للعام الدراسي القادم 2010/2011 التوجه بأقرب فرصة إلى مراجعة إدارة التسجيل في المدرسة للقيام بذلك إن كانت فرصة إعادة التسجيل ما زالت متاحة أمامهم. وفي حالة عدم توفر مكان، فعلى ولي الأمر العمل على تسجيل ابنه/ابنته في مدارس مماثلة بأسرع وقت حتى لا تفوت الفرصة عليهم. حيث أن الموعد النهائي لإعادة التسجيل قد انتهى، وأن المدرسة لن تكون مسئولة عن ضمان مكان لابنكم/ابنتكم لديها للعام الدراسي القادم.

الرجاء العلم بأن مواعيد الدوام خلال شهر رمضان الكريم للعام الأكاديمي 2010/2011 هي كالآتي
مرحلة رياض الأطفال: 9:00 صباحاً – 12:00 ظهراً
مرحلة الإبتدائي: 9:00 صباحاً – 2:25 عصراً
مرحلتا المتوسط والثانوي: 9:00 صباحاً – 2:30 عصراً
كما نود تذكيركم بأن المدرسة قد خصصت صالة للطلبة غير الصائمين، حيث أن الأكل والشرب ممنوع خلال الشهر الفضيل في مرافق المدرسة الأخرى.

وأخيراً نتمنى لكم جميعاً قضاء إجازة سعيدة وآمنة.

Dear Parents:

We will be dismissing school this Thursday, May 6, 2010 as indicated in the school calendar to enable our teachers to participate in a half-day professional development workshop.

Students will be dismissed from school at 11:00 a.m. Busses will leave school at 11:15 a.m. and parents who pick up their children are asked to do so at that time.

School will resume on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the regularly scheduled time.

Kindly make sure that you have re-enrolled your child for the academic year 2010-2011.
