Art Program
art i
This course is an in-depth study of the elements and principles of design using a variety of techniques and media. Art I is a one or two term course for beginners or advanced students. Students participate in projects where design drawing, painting, and graphic design constitute the basics. History of art is interwoven throughout the course as a means of appreciating the outstanding art works of the past. An emphasis is placed on graphic art so that the student understand one of the uses of art in the modern world.
art ii
This course is an in-depth study of the elements and principles of design using a variety of media. Three-dimensional work in clay and paper mache will be explored. This course highlights the variety of materials used by artists, such as recycled materials and found objects. Three to four weeks will be spent working in clay and learning about hand building and basics of throwing a pot.
art iii
This course is an in-depth study of basic drawing techniques. Life studies, still life and perspective will be examined. A variety of media will be used. students will explore the proportions and anatomy of the face and human form. a strong mastery of various media will be required, such as pencil, charcoal, pastels, and oils. all students will keep a portfolio and present it for grading at the end of each term.
Band Program
The Middle and High School band program is designed to develop an appreciation for and knowledge of the performing arts. Students will gain an understanding of the relationship between music and disciplines outside the arts. Through the medium of music, students will learn to communicate effectively, think creatively, and will develop an understanding of the role of music as it relates to culture and society.
The UAS Middle/High School Band program incorporates the study of Oriental and Middle-Eastern music into its curriculum and provides students with opportunities to appreciate local music and practice in cultural performances and activities.
The Band program focuses on five contexts through which music is studied and appreciated. These are: Skills and Techniques, Creation and Communication, Cultural and Historical Connections, Aesthetic and Critical Analysis, and Applications to Life.
Our Concert Band has performed throughout the State of Kuwait, including such venues as Marina Mall, the Diwan of Private Education, and at the Regency Hotel for the International Toastmasters Middle East Convention, hosted locally by the State of Kuwait.
Physical Education
Physical Education provides the setting that develops and promotes physical, intellectual, social and emotional wellbeing of each student throughout a lifetime of activity. Classes work to develop intrinsic motivation that leads to group cooperation and lifetime fitness. Students participate in a variety of physical activities throughout the year including team sports, group work, physical fitness, cardiovascular fitness and good sportsmanship. Though not taught directly, aspects of good health/nutrition are incorporated throughout the several units of activity. Finally, the student develops an appreciation for the role that physical activity and physical fitness play in a well-rounded, happy, intellectually challenging and healthy life. Additional points for the P.E. grade may be earned through participation in after-school sports teams.
