Additional Graduation Requirements
All students must accumulate the required credits and complete specific required courses, to receive a diploma from the Universal American School. Moslems must complete 28 credits (2 credits of Islamic Religion required); non-Moslems must complete 26 credits.
- A student who enters UAS as a senior must have a full schedule of 8 credits for this one year at UAS.
- There is only one (1) formal graduation ceremony held each year. It is generally scheduled during the last couple of weeks of the regular school year depending on the availability of facilities.
- When a senior is lacking in one credit or less to graduate, he or she may attend a summer school to complete requirements. Students who are lacking more than one credit to graduate may return for the subsequent fall semester in order to meet graduation requirements.
- Mid-year graduates will not receive their diploma in December or January, but will be eligible to participate in the end-of-year graduation ceremony, where they will receive their diploma. For the purposes of college admission, a letter can be issued to the student upon request to verify the completion of graduation requirements.
- Only seniors who are lacking two credits or less to graduate will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Seniors who will complete their graduation requirements in the subsequent fall may participate in the following year's graduation ceremony.
- An "elective" is a course of student choice that fulfills the elective requirement for graduation. Many courses may be taken as electives as long as prerequisites are met. Elective courses are available on the basis of student needs and interest, and upon the availability of qualified staff.
- All students in 9th grade must take Arabic as their "World Language" credit. In grade 10, 11,and 12, non-Arabs are not required to take Arabic.
- All students in 9th grade must take Language Arts. This is a 1 credit course.
- With the Superintendent's approval, students may substitute AP courses for regular graduation requirements.
