The mission of the UAS Elementary Counseling Program is to help develop academic excellence and career and personal/social development for all students to assist them in becoming productive citizens and lifelong learners.
What does an elementary school counselor do at UAS?
- Helps ALL children
- Teaches classroom guidance lessons dealing with:
- understanding of self
- understanding of others
- communication skills
- decision making skills
- career exploration
- conflict resolution skills
- Works with children individually and in small groups
- Consults with parents and teachers
- Participates on the Child Study Team
- Assists with crisis intervention
- Coordinates Peer Mediation/Friendly Helper Program
- Coordinates Helping Hands Program
- Organizes Annual Career Day and Career Week
- Coordinates elementary tutoring program
- Administers elementary admissions testing
- Coordinates elementary-wide Stanford Achievement Test
