High School Curriculum

Regular Program

The UAS regular program is an American curriculum college prep program.  Courses are organized into semester 90 minute block classes except Arabic language and Religion courses which are organized into year long half block classes.

A normal class load is four 90 minute block classes each 18 week semester.  Usually students have two half block classes during one of the 90 minute blocks for Arabic language and religion.

All courses except Arab language and Religion have content learning standards aligned with the American educational system.  UAS continually updates its curriculum to match the American system.

Student achievement is graded by teachers in each course using a 50-100 grade system.  A student’s GPA is calculated by averaging grade points earned in all courses.

Achievement Level            Number Grade     Letter Grade               Grade Points
Excellent Achievement           90-100                      A                                  4
Proficient Achievement          80-89                         B                                  3
Basic Achievement                 70-79                        C                                  2
Partial Achievement               60-69                        D                                  1
Insufficient Achievement        50-59                        F                                  0

Advanced Placement Program

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are the most rigorous courses offered by UAS.  This program gives students the opportunity to take college-level studies while in high school and receive advanced placement credit upon entering college depending on the AP Exam Score earned.

Each AP course requires students to attend extension classes on some Saturdays and after school on some days.  The extra time is needed for preparing the examination.

The AP course grading system allows students to earn additional grade points.
