High School Principal’s Message 2011-2012 School Year

Welcome to the Universal American School High School website.  With nearly 450 students enrolled for the 2011-2012 school year, we are mindful and primed for the multiple challenges that await us this year.

As a diverse college preparatory school, we offer a wide variety of challenging courses that fit each student.  The ability of the student, and their desire to accomplish in each area, will determine the course load and the level of courses taken during the high school years.  Many students at UAS opt for the Advanced Placement program, which begins in the 10th grade.

Keep in mind, that we embrace teamwork and realize that as a team we can accomplish all of our goals and objectives. Together--parents, students, teachers and administrators, we provide the framework that will enable our students to earn seats at the very best colleges and universities in Kuwait and around the world.  As important, our students graduate with the ability to be productive and ethical citizens.  Too, we expect our students to communicate effectively and become critical thinkers during their journey at UAS and beyond its doors.

Furthermore, we realize that in this ever changing world the importance of staying abreast of educational change, especially in the area of technology. On the other hand, we firmly believe that education should not  lose sight of the traditional components which have worked so well throughout the centuries.  We expect our students to develop specific expertise and core knowledge in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, foreign Language, art and English.  In addition, UAS empowers all of the high school students to understand, appreciate and respect Arabic language, culture and religion.

Personal attention is a prime factor in our equation for success at UAS.   Therefore, our counseling staff makes a concerted effort to meet with each student and family on multiple occasions during the year to discuss progress, future planning, the college application process and a sundry of other items that are specific to the student.

High School Vice Principal's Message

As the Vice Principal, my role is to help guide students to make good decisions regarding their citizenship and behavior.  Teachers work cohesively with students to forge meaningful partnerships in learning, and they model ethics in a structured school environment that supports our school’s honor code.  The ethical and moral tone of the UAS High School, matched with punctual attendance and respect for self, peers, and staff are the perfect recipe for success at our school.  Unfortunately there are occasions when issues related to respect, safety and attendance need to be dealt with.  It is important to understand that there are consequences for our actions in our school community and they are observed as stipulated in our UAS Student/Parent Handbook.

School, as in life, requires balance; in addition to the academic rigors of high school, students can and should get involved in the many extra-curricular activities that take place within our walls.  Eagle spirit, skill and pride can be demonstrated through our athletic offerings (volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, etc....) and through our clubs (Green club, Model United Nations, Student Council, NHS, UAS Ambassadors, Band, etc...).  The Universal American School staff and students pride themselves on academic success as well as on the strong character attributes demonstrated within the walls of the building and within the community.

We have much to be thankful for and are proud be leaders on Kuwait's international school stage. I look forward to the exciting year ahead.
