Mission
The mission of the Universal American School Library is to provide a collection of materials that will implement, enrich, and support the curriculum of the UAS and to meet the individual educational, emotional, and recreational needs of students, faculty, and staff.
The Library Media Center provides a wide range of materials in many formats that support the school curriculum, and ensures that students, faculty and staff are information literate.
Hours
Students from elementary, middle and high school may use the library between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
Books and Loan Period
| Grade/Area | Number of Books | Loan Period |
| Pre-school and Grade 1 | 1 book per student | 1 week |
| Grades 2 through 5 | 3 books per student | 1 week |
| Grades 6 through 12 | 5 books per student | 2 weeks |
Fines and Overdue Items
Grades 2 through 5: the fine is 20 fils per day, per book with a maximum of 1KD.
Grades 6 through 12: the fine is 50 fils per day, per book with a maximum of 3KD.
Overdue notices will be sent every two weeks. Patrons will receive a maximum of two notices. After eight weeks, books not returned to the library will be considered lost (see below). Users with overdue books or fines may borrow additional materials only with the permission of the librarian. When books are returned and fines paid, full privileges are restored. Overdue books and materials remaining at the end of the school semester may result in students not receiving their report cards until accounts are settled.
Damaged or Lost Items
Every user is solely responsible for materials checked out under his/her name. Users pay full cost of lost or seriously damaged items that must be replaced, plus 3KD for shipping and handling. Middle and High School students pay 2KD for the replacement of a lost library card.
Computers and Photocopy
Students need to have a specific school-related task in order to use the library computers; they are tools designed for learning and cannot accommodate personal use. Printing is available, although students must supply their own paper.
A photocopier is available for all users. A maximum of ten pages may be photocopied at one time and students are charged 40 fils per photocopy.
Library Code of Ethics
Be considerate of those studying and working quietly. Food, drinks and gum are not allowed in the Library Media Center. Do not leave bags and other large containers at the door to the library. Be courteous and follow the directions of teacher and librarians. Do not put books back on the shelves; leave them on the book trucks. Before leaving, clean the area around your table and push chairs up under the table. Remember to always sign out books and material, and to return them on time. Classroom rules apply in the library.
